The Department of Anthropology at Kalahandi University being one of the oldest departments of the state aims to excel in teaching and research to emerge as a world-class department. It offers BA/BSc (12 seats), MA/MSc (32 seats) and PhD Courses. The department offers advance courses on anthropology like anthropology of development, social policy, anthropology of gender, museology, linguistic anthropology and digital anthropology, to name a few. The department has seven qualified and experienced faculty members who studied in University of East London, University of Hohenheim (Germany), Delhi University, NIT, Utkal University, Sambalpur University. Faculties have extensive research experience of working at Anthropological Survey of India (AnSI), RMRC (ICMR), Planning Commission, Govt. of India, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, IIM-Ahmadabad, KISS Deemed to be University, SCSTRTI. The faculties have worked in projects funded by UNDP, UNICEF, World Bank, WHO, Trocaire, Win rock International. Some of the core areas of interests of the faculties are anthropology of development, social policy, gerontology, children and childhood, cultural studies, agrarian studies, labour and migration, gender, digital ethnography, anthropology of education, indigenous health and medicine. Recently the department has signed MoU with IBRAD for a collaborative project on digital ethnography for sustainable tribal development.
